I have 3 reasons why I love his music.
- “Love for music” spilt over from his body and soul
- Excellent technic supported by his musicality
- Warm sound copied from warm personality
1）Love for music
“Love for music” is his key characteristic. Horn support other instruments in many cases by harmony, except rare solo. Peter Damm doesn’t stop singing even if it is accompaniment if he believe it is necessary. I feel he can’t stop love for music stop flowing from his body and the sound gives strong energy to Orchestra and other players.
2) Technic supported by his love for music
It is said that French horn is the most difficult instrument. The difficulty comes from the length of tube close to 5 meters. The structure make it difficult to hit right tone. Even though player’s technic have been much improved recently, Peter Damm’s technic is beyond human being. However, Peter Damm just use his technic to show his love for music only.
3) Tone
Many people says that they like sound of horn. In fact, there are many type of horn sound. I don’t know if you agree or not, I think tone of Peter Damm is silk and others are cotton or chemical fiber. I believe his sound is very warm just like his own personality which I felt in Dresden in the past. Both his sound and personality are very warm.
My master’s essay ends here. Not very skillful essay, but it made me fall in love with Peter Damm’s music. Peter Damm fascinated a dog, too ! To show respect for my Master’s passion, I will introduce some of my “Master Works of Peter Damm” in this blog.
