Prologue (2) About Peter Damm

I carefully read CV of Peter Damm on his official website and extracted his self introduction with my additional explanation for reader. I would appreciate if you let me know in case of some misunderstanding.

Peter Damm was born in 1937 in Meiningen, Germany under World WarⅡ.

He learned violin at 11 years old and started horn lesson from Franz Nauber on 1951.
He studied Horn from Karl Biehlig until 1957. He played horn in orchestra in 1953 and played “Hänsel und Gretel” on Christmas. He played Mozart horn concert KV447 in 1955.

In 1957, he started carrier of principal horn player of The Orchestra of Gera. 2 years later, he joined Leipzig Gewanthaus as principal horn player until 1969.

He became principal horn player of Staatzkapelle Dresden (SKD) from 1969. This became his longest career and worked in this orchestra until 2002.

After he retired SKD, he taught in Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden until he retired in 2007.

Some people may think Peter Damm is a player of DDR, but this is partly correct and partly not. He was born in Germany before the country was divided in 1949 and continued his carrier in SKD (Staatzkapelle Dresden) after reunion of Germany in 1990.

I wonder what was it like if he was born in West Germany, though I know there is no “If” in history.
